Q: How is Lad free?

A: Lad is free because it avoids running expensive centralized infrastructure. Some features rely on lightweight APIs or user-provided API access, which keeps operating costs low and allows the app to remain free.

Q: How do the APIs work?

A: When you scan food or describe a meal, Lad may send that input to external services such as food databases or AI models to generate calorie and macro estimates. In some cases, API usage is handled directly on-device rather than through a central server.

Q: Are the calorie and macro numbers accurate?

A: Lad provides estimates based on your input, food databases, and AI analysis. For food label scans and barcode scans, results are almost always highly accurate because they come directly from structured nutrition data. For described meals, results are still strong estimates but may not be exact.

Q: Am I limited to a certain number of item lookups per day?

A: No. Lad does not enforce strict daily limits for normal use, so you can log and scan foods freely.

Q: Why is Lad faster than other calorie apps?

A: Lad is designed around natural input instead of manual logging. By removing dropdowns and using direct parsing and scanning, it significantly reduces the time needed to log food.

Q: Will my data be saved?

A: Saved foods and menus are stored locally on your device. If the app is deleted or local data is cleared, saved items may be lost.

Q: Why isn’t something scanning or loading?

A: Make sure you have a stable internet connection and camera access enabled. Some scans may fail due to poor image quality, unreadable text, or missing data from external sources.

Q: Why is a barcode or food not recognized?

A: Not all foods exist in the database. If something is missing, try describing it manually instead.

Q: Does Lad slow down over time?

A: No. Since Lad does not rely on heavy background syncing or unnecessary background processes, performance remains fast and consistent.
